Jasmin Ortiz is a New York born artist of Dominican decent. She currently lives and works in New York City. She attended the New World School of the Arts High School in Miami and in 1998 was accepted into the prestigious Cooper Union School for the Advancement of Science and Art where she earned her BFA.
This black Dominican artist uses her photographs and other mediums as powerful tools to embrace and celebrate who she is and to inspire a deeper look into self-identity issues within Dominican and other Black Latino communities.
Ms. Ortiz has traveled to Africa, Barbados and to the Dominican Republic to further expand her understanding of race and beauty issues she and other women continue to confront. She currently works as a studio teacher at Horace Mann Nursery School. There Ms. Ortiz works closely with children three to five years old, using her craft as a painter, photographer and graphic designer to promote the importance of creativity and self-expression.
